Diebold job cuts to begin Oct. 17

Diebold Inc. the maker of ATM and voting machines has notified the state it plans to shut down two Hebron facilities and cut about 100 jobs.

More than 60 affected workers will be let go by the end of November, while the last terminations will take place by February 27, 2009.

Diebold said that the work is being transferred to a plant in Lexington, N.C. as part of a move to cut about 800 jobs by the end of this year. The company employs over 17,000 workers worldwide. The company is working on a 3 year plan to cut $100 million in cost by the end of 2008.
